Which course should I take? If you have little to know exposure to speaking or writing Ladino, and are serious about developing proficiency in the language, the Intensive Beginner course is a good option. If you are somewhat proficient in the language and/or have taken an intermediate course, a Conversation course would be appropriate. This course is especially fitting if you’d like the focus of the class to revolve around speaking the language. If you are interested in learning how to read and write Ladino in the Hebrew-based cursive script used among Sephardim in previous generations, consider taking the Reading Solitreo class.

What happens if I register and the minimum number of participants is not met? You will have the option to either receive your money back or join another class.
What is the maximum number of participants allowed in a class? This will depend on the class. Please see course descriptions on and notes in each of the given courses for additional details.

Will these classes be online? Yes, all classes this summer will be entirely online. We will utilize the Zoom platform, which is free for you to download on your computer, tablet, or smartphone. You will receive a password-protected link to gain access to your class.
What is the advantage of taking these classes as opposed to self-study? For years, people around the world have been asking for online classes. These classes not only facilitate your learning, but they also foster a community of learners interested in gaining proficiency in Ladino. Further, your instructor is one of the leading Ladino language scholars and one of only a handful of experienced Ladino teachers in the United States. See some of the testimonials and ratings on the home page!
Will classes be recorded for further review? As the class format is live (synchronous), classes will not be recorded. However, participants will receive access to a “students-only” password-protected section of this site, which will contain material to review the content of each session.
How do I gain access to the student-only section? You will receive an email with login information in the days prior to the start of our summer class.
Will there be a textbook for our course? Depending on the class you register for, you will receive information as to which texts are to be used and where to purchase them online (costs are separate from any payment for class enrollment). The Intensive Beginner course will use a textbook; the Conversation and Solitreo classes will use materials provided to them.
